Simply put, mentoring is the process by which someone who is more experienced assists someone else who is less experienced in achieving their goals. Depending on what might be needed at a given point in time, this assistance can take many forms:
- Technical Guidance — how to approach a specific technical problem
- Professional Advice — how to move forward toward a professional goal
- Soundboarding — serving as a safe person with which the one being mentored can blow off steam or vent
In years past, this sort of relationship often grew up organically as new folks fresh out of school came into an organization and made friends with the “old hands”. But that was then, and this is now. Regardless of the reasons behind the change (and there are many), this sort of relationship development is becoming more and more rare.
The service that I offer has as its goal filling the need for kinds of support mentioned above. The process for getting involved is simple. The first step is to fill out a one-page form that identifies where you are, and where you are trying to go with your life/career.
If after reviewing your goals I feel I can materially help you, we will start working together. The fee is $45/hr and would cover telephone contact, emails or any other form of electronic communications. When accepted, I will send you a link to make an initial payment via a secure site. Because the whole process is driven by your needs, there is no set commitment and you are free to cancel at anytime.
